Memory verses focus on the topics of attitude and obedience in the Fall semester with a passage selection from the book of James being the memorization focus in the Spring. Students are also exposed to global missions as they examine historic figures who have taken the gospel to other parts of the world.
7th Grade Route 66 (Positive Action) In 7th grade, students are taught an overview of God’s Word as all 66 books of the Bible are examined. Memory verses focus on the topics of kindness and respect in the Fall semester with a passage selection from the book of Philippians being the memorization focus in the Spring. Students are also instructed in practical application on how to study the Bible personally as they are exposed to personal devotional tools.
8th Grade Behold Your God (Positive Action) In 8th grade, students are taught a theological overview of the Trinity (Father, Son and Spirit). Memory verses focus on the topics of purity and choices in the Fall semester with a passage selection from the book of Galatians being the memorization focus in the Spring. Students are also exposed to basic apologetics as the reliability of Scripture is examined.
Note: As part of our Bible curriculum, all middle school students are required to complete 10 community service hours each semester.
English Our middle school English department teaches the IEW (Institute of Excellence in Writing) curriculum for all three grade levels (6th, 7th and 8th grade) in conjunction with the TCS high school curriculum. Both the middle school and high school departments work in collaboration with each other to ensure that students are learning a consistent teaching language during their time at TCS. Developing strong writers is the goal of our English department. Students are taught strong paragraph skills through sentence dress-ups and openers. Students are given the opportunity to annotate several novels during the course of the year as well.
History 6th Grade World Studies (BJU) In 6th grade, students explore the civilizations of the world through the lens of a Christian worldview. The study begins with a brief review of history from Creation to the coming of Christ and progresses in a chronological journey around the world studying the ebb and flow of empires, cultures, Christianity, and world religions, concluding with an examination of the trends of the emerging 21st century.
7th Grade American Republic (BJU) In 7th grade, students explore the history of the United States through richly detailed narrative and a colorful, engaging presentation. Starting with the discovery of the New World, the text traces the path of American history up to the present day. In addition to a historical account, the study demonstrates the distinctiveness of American values and government, and emphasizes the importance of understanding and appreciating United States history.
8th Grade Georgia History (Notgrass Company, Clairmont Press) In 8th grade, students explore the geography, history, government, and economics of the great state of Georgia from a Christian perspective. United States historical events are included, as appropriate, to ensure students understand Georgia’s role in the history of the United States.
Mathematics 6th Grade Fundamentals of Math (BJU Press) This Bob Jones course covers math concepts such as whole numbers, decimals, number theory, fractions, and an introduction to algebra and geometry. Problem solving skills and the applications of math to real life are emphasized.
7th Grade Pre-Algebra (BJU Press) This Bob Jones course eases the transition from arithmetic to algebra. Algebraic expressions and linear equations are applied throughout a thorough review of operations on integers, fractions, decimals, percents, and radicals. Students explore relations and functions using equations, tables, and graphs. Chapters on statistics and geometry extend foundational concepts in preparation for high school courses. Problem-solving and real-life uses of math are featured in each chapter. Dominion through math exercises regularly illustrate how mathematics can be used to manage God’s creation to His glory.
8th Grade Algebra 1 (BJU Press) This Bob Jones course develops an understanding of algebra by justifying methods and by explaining how to solve problems. Concepts discussed include graphing, solving systems of equations, operations with polynomials and radicals, factoring polynomials, solving rational equations, and graphing quadratic functions.
Science 6th Grade Earth Science (Christian Schools International) In 6th grade, students are exposed to earth science from a Christian perspective as they learn that the earth’s foundation ultimately rests on the foundation of God as Creator. This course examines subjects such as geology, water and water systems, meteorology, environment, and astronomy. Labs are incorporated where appropriate to give students hands on experiences with the material.
7th Grade Life Science (BJU Press) In 7th grade, students are exposed to life science from the perspective of a Christian worldview, believing that a loving God created all things and that He is involved in all aspects of life. This course covers plant and animal life, creationism and evolution, and the human body. Labs provide students with first hand experiences including dissection of several animal specimens. Honors students also participate in a science fair during the spring semester.
8th Grade Physical Science (Christian Schools International) In 8th grade, students are exposed to the basics of physics and chemistry from a Christian worldview. This course examines subjects such as force, motion, friction, gravity, Newton’s laws, energy and machines, elements, mixtures, chemical reactions and compounds. Students will view each content area with the knowledge that a loving God created all things to work together for a purpose and that He is evident in all aspects of science. Labs are conducted with each chapter to help the students process the material through hands-on observations.
8th Grade Honors Science – High School Credit Available – Physical Science (BJU) In 8th grade Honors Science, students are exposed to an exciting and engaging introduction to the world of physics and chemistry. Designed and written for the 9th-grade level, it provides an essential foundation for subsequent science courses, including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. It builds a foundation of basic knowledge regarding matter and measurements early in the text, then furnishes the student with the key principles and scientific laws of classical physics, thermodynamics, electricity, magnetism, sound, light, and optics.
Physical Education All middle school students at TCS are enrolled in Physical Education (PE) classes each school year. We believe students need the physical exertion and fitness opportunities as they learn skills regarding good sportsmanship and teamwork. Classes are divided by both grade and gender, with 8th grade student athletes being given the opportunity to take weightlifting as an alternative to our PE class.
